So here's how last night's adventure went:
The four players, Danira, Cit, Jes and Neko showed up in the lobby of Brokensoul. We chat, and are about to embark on the quest, when Neko announces something has just come up ad has to postpone for the week.
We've just lost our cleric. Not good.
In Neko's place, the ever resourceful Dungeon Basterd adds a mute monk.
So we finally set out.
The first area we come to has blood smeared on the walls and a dead body lying under and overturned cart. Nothing special about the body, but there is silver ore lying around. Cit, of course, picks up as much as he can. There was nothing else of note really in this room but there were two exits. One to the west, a tunnel, and one to the east, a ramp.
The party moved to the map room about this time and then OpenRPG crashed and we were left without. We then moved to an AIM chatroom, where we finally decided to continue. Nick popped in around this time to say hello, but declined to join the party. He probably sensed doom.
The party finally decided to take the eastern ramp:
Jes: As an operating mine, I trust it not to be trapped or otherwise hindersome.
Suddenly:
DungeonBasterd: alrighty, and as yer walking down the corridor, Jes and Dan fall into a pit trap. 30' drop.
And all, except, surprisingly, Cit, fell into a pit trap. Danira took 8 pts of damage, Jes took 2 and the monk must have taken severe damage for after tossing Cit a rope and managing to climb out, (it took Danira two tries, she fell the first time after 15 feet,) the monk transformed into a female sorcerer claiming her name is Bambi. She quickly corrects herself, (must have just realized it said sorcerer, not stripper, hey it WAS a long fall,) and announced her name was Cirian.
We continued on:
DungeonBasterd: This is a huge cavern
DungeonBasterd: Glowing blue-green lichens creep across the rough walls and man-sized stalagmites protruding from the ground in this
area, their faint light growing and then diminishing again every few seconds
Cirian: ooo cool
DungeonBasterd: The illumination occasionally highlights small flecks of silver, which glitter in the face of the great western wall of the
cave.
DungeonBasterd: Several cables hang down from the edge of a wide hollow within that wall. The hollow penetrates deep into the west
face of the cavern and begins about 20 feet above where you stand
DungeonBasterd: The air here feels cool and damp.
There's a ledge about 30 feet high with four ropes leading up to it. Cit, being ever astute says:
Cit: exactly 4...trap anyone?
Which of course it turns out to be. Four kobold appear on the ledge and fire at the party. Cit is hit for 2, (surprise,) and he returns fire, but misses. Cirian fires and kills one. Cit's next shot doesn't miss and he kills a kobold. Two more kobold take the place of the fallen. Cirian kills another kobold with a magic missile and a dire rat appears. Jes injures the rat and Danira throws a dagger and kills the rat. In the end, the party killed 5 kobold and a kobold spellcaster showed up to offer a trade. If the party left his crew alone, he would give us the "wealth of the demon." The party was skeptical, but agreed so they could continue.
The next area is a bowl shaped room, a body pit. There are nine corpses in it at the moment.
Cit: why am I thinking we're about to be attacked by zombies?
Cit must have some sort of spidey sense because as the party makes its way through the room:
DungeonBasterd: k, oh hey - guess what?
DungeonBasterd: Cit was right.... the bodies start to rise... zombie miners and kobolds.
Cit: I'm either psychic or you people are bad luck.
The party runs into the next area:
DungeonBasterd: towards the next cavern...
DungeonBasterd: A single, jagged pillar of rock lined with glowing blue-green moss emerges from the depths of the pool within the center
of this cavern.
DungeonBasterd: Water courses down its side from a font near its tip, cascading into the pool below.
DungeonBasterd: The pool feeds a wide stream that flows rapidly along the length of the room and then under the rock wall at the
southern end of the cave
DungeonBasterd: Several glyphs are carved deep into the stone face of the pillar, their outlines just visible beneath the light of the moss.
DungeonBasterd: An eerie sense of discomfort pervades this place.
DungeonBasterd: from behind the column, you see an orc with a "Charlie Manson" look in his face
DungeonBasterd: just from looking (yes) at the water, you can tell there's some black magic going on in there.
DungeonBasterd: upon seeing you, the orc yells something in his language
DungeonBasterd: next thing you know, it's dark around where he is
Jes decides to fight off the zombies that are following the team, Cit fires at the darkness surrounding the orc, Danira can't move and Cirian tried light magic on the orc. To try and shorten this post somewhat, Jes ended up throwing three flasks of oil at the zombies. After the continual fire damage kicked in, all were dead. Cit, after firing a couple of times at the orc, decided that if he could destroy the pillar, it would stop the poisonous water. That didn't work, since he just had a crossbow, so he went back to firing on the orc. Jes was taken out first. Danira ran to stem Jes's bleeding when she could move again and Cirian also fired at the orc. Cit was hit and decided to use a potion of cure light he had with him. That led to:
DungeonBasterd: how'd you get a potion of cure light?
Cit: had it with me since the beginning
Cit: and you're asking a thief how he got something?
Cirian: hahaha
DungeonBasterd: sonofabitch, that's the kinda shit you ask a DM about in the beginning
Cit: it's on my sheet
DungeonBasterd: fine, since yer getting yer asses kicked, and you got it past (yeah, I see it), s'cool.
The die roll apparently pathetic, (since OpenRPG went down, Dungeon Basterd was doing all the rolling,) and Cit regained one hp. Then he was immediately hit with a crossbow bolt for 3. He dropped. Danira and Cirian took cover behind the pillar and wondered what to do. They finally decided to carry Jes and Cit out. The orc dispelled the darkness surrounding him and tossed the group a scroll written in orcish and gave the group a get the fuck outta here look. He then fired an arrow at Cit, taking Cit down to -2 hp.
The group left, went back to the village, only to find that the person they had gone on the quest to save had died.
Just a usual adventure for the Guild of the Burning Ring of Fire.

I hope everyone had/is having a wonderful holiday.
It was great to see my family. Everyone is doing well. It was a great few days. Even the young kids behaved themselves. Usually they're a handful. The time we hand out gifts usually turns into pandemonium. We do the kids stuff first so they don't have to wait, then we move on to the adult's gifts. The children want to hand out the presents but they don't wait for someone to open their gift before throwing out more. Nor do they follow the pattern we've started so each person gets a gift before someone gets their second, third etc. The kids toss the presents left and right. That leads to everyone holding their gifts looking around wondering if it's their turn to open one. It gets a little out of hand. but this year wasn't like that. The kids were sort of well behaved. I say sort of because there was some slight damage done to the condo's community centre property. Nothing major, but damamge nonetheless.
Nothing news-worthy happened to me which can be good or bad, depending on the kind of news that could have happened. Now I have get togethers with friends to look forward to. After that, it's the end of the vacation. I don't want to look that far ahead.
See everyone on D&D night.

This looks like my last chance to wish everyone a safe and joyous Christmas. People will be out and about, away from the computer. (Even me, which seems to happen once in a blue moon.) Sure I'll be back on Monday, so I'd be able to say this Monday morning, (and by "morning" I mean early afternoon at the earliest, because there is no WAY I am getting outta bed before noon!) So, while I'll be around Monday, I doubt I'd see any of ya, nor do I expect to.
In other news, I don't have any. moving on....
D&D pics: I have a new one of Dusty done. It's rough, but it's pretty good so far. I've even included her two familiars in this one. And lemme just clarify this for everyone. Ravens are a pain in the ass to draw if you don't know what they look like exactly. Thank god it's easy to find reference material online. I didn't think I'd have trouble, seeing as how I'm starting to think I'm being followed by a damn crow/raven/big black bird. I see one every day. Doesn't matter what part of the city I'm in, one always seems close by. It's weird and I'm paranoid.
I'm going to mass Christmas morning. I only mention this because I hate going Christmas morning. Christmas Eve, fine, but Christmas morning is a pain. I have to tear myself away from the crass commercialism that Christmas has become to fight for a seat in a pew at church. I always hated mass on Christmas and Easter, not because of the mass itself, but because that's when the C&E people appear. C&E people are those "church-goers" who only go on Christmas and Easter. And they always seem to get the good seats. The regular parishoners are stuck making due or even stuck standing at the back. One year I was stuck sitting on the arm of a pew. Normally, the pews are uncomfortable, but trying to sit on the arm of a pew is worse. Because so many people showed up on those two holidays, we built a new, larger church. It was larger enough to accomedate all the people who were showing up on Christmas and Easter so it should have taken care of the problem. Did it? No! As soon as it was built, other families who had previously gone to other churches started showing up. Mostly C&Eers again. Dman freeloaders. I know Christmas is a time of love and whatever, but most of these new people only started coming when the new church was finished. They didn't help pay for it, they just came because, hey! It's new! Not only that, but we're stuck with the same problem as we had before.
I shouldn't complain really. The past few years, I've only gone about 4-5 times a year or so. I should go more, hell, I should do a lot of things, but I don't.
New Year's resolution, I guess.

I'm planning on seeing Lord of the Rings Friday night. First things first though, I have to finish the book. I have about 100 pages left so I'll take 45 minutes or an hour tonight and get it done. After that it's the start of holidays. No work, no nuthin'.
That doesn't mean I won't be up to something. The D&D portraits are underway. So far, I've finished Matt's and Peachy's. I'm working on Neko's but I still need some info, (such as what TYPE of cat. A panther? A cougar? Tiger? And if you've gotten rid of the kimono, WTF are you wearing?) Nick is the same way. I need a description at least, so until he's back, I'll just have to kick around a few ideas. Dusty, I'm gonna redo yours. The first one is a little cartoony, I think you'd agree. I'll save the original for the comic, (if I start one that is.) Because if I do, I'll need character designs that'll be easy to draw over and over. Brian, even though you can't get the stuff installed at home, Jes is still getting a pic. It's in the planning stages, but I've at least gotten away from the Daphne look and what's-her-name from the D&D cartoon. Don't worry, that's a good thing.
I think that's everyone. So far the response to the one's that are up has been positive. That makes me wonder. Y'know guys, I CAN take criticism...Not very well but I can take it. :-) And yes, you heard right, I've finished Matt's DB and the Danira portrait. Can you see em? I can't post a link because Geocities blocks it (bastards.) To see em, just type in my web URL (geocities.com/asmyth82) and add DM.jpg or danira.jpg. That simple. Feedback is appreciated.

Spent a few hours today reading and listening to music. What I was reading was Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. No, I'm not re-reading it. I'm reading it for the first time. I've gotten a couple of surprised "You've never read those books before?" No I haven't. But reading them for the first time is an enviable thing, or so I've been led to believe. I was at a party once and was surprised to sit and listen to a few of my
drunk friends talk about the book. Turns out they'd all read it several times. And these were musicians. Not the typical geeks you'd expect to be obsessed with the trilogy. Listening to them I heard several times that they wished they could go back and read the books again for the first time.
Nothing like the first time I guess.
I was listening to an assortment of CDs from my collection. (I was actually listening to a demo CD my above mentioned friends have put out. it's awesome, but back to the post at hand.) I have very assorted tastes you could say. I'm the only person I know who has an mp3 playlist that jumps from Mozart to Ozzy to Sinatra to Metallica etc.
So there I was, stretched out on the couch in the living room. Normally I recline in my La-Z-Boy but at Christmas, there's nothing I like better than stretching out in the living room with the Christmas tree lights on and twinkling. I don't know what it is, nostalgia of Christmases past or what, but there is no other scene I enjoy more throughout the entire year. The only way it could have been better is if I had a fireplace to have a fire in and a pristine snowfall outside. The stuff of postcards basically.
This has to be my favourite time of year. Christmas is great, (I still sleep very little on Christmas Eve,) but I enjoy the week preceding it as well. Then there's always the slight depression once it's over. When you have to toss the browning tree out and put away all the decorations for another year.
After that, it's New Years...Need I say more?

I'm getting really sick of the lack of comments. Without them I don't know if people are even reading what I write or if they're just passing through going through the ring and they just pass me by. I get the suspicion that people are trying to comment. "Oh yes," I tell myself, "if these comments were working, my posts would be overflowing with comments." Of course, when they do work, (there is a fifteen minute opening before they shut it down after I've joined,) nobody bothers to comment on most of my posts and when they do, there's a good chance it'll be something along the lines of "You suck donkey balls." Those kinds of comments I can do without. I'm used to the wittier humour of the BRoF group and know they aren't that lowbrow and childish. Hell, even Matt would have to stoop lower for that kind of insult, and he's the master of lowbrow insults!
I'm gone for my family Christmas this weekend, so something really exciting will happen around the group. I always missed the huge announcement in the community of the game starting with "M" that is dead to me now. (As much as I hate having it's name here, it's easier to just type "Majestic"). And it wasn't just in that community. Even in BRoF I miss the major stuff. I think you know what I mean, at least those of you in the know, but if you are in the know then you must know or get a new title. Anyway, I'm just rambling now. Back to my point, which is that I'm giving warning that something will happen this weekend. I'm sure of it. It will be the topic of conversation for many weeks to come and I'm sure I'll have to beg to be told what happened and curse the fact I wasn't around to witness it. But I'll be getting gifts, which will be just as good.
Come to think of it, none of you will be around I'm sure. I mean, we all still have lives don't we? Families? Things to do away from a monitor? Plans? Only pathetic losers don't have plans I'm sure. And I say hello to thoes pathetic losers reading this right now and ask them to keep an eye on the chat rooms for the rest of us since they have nothing better to do.
And people wonder why you shouldn't write long posts when you're tired.

D&D last night. I take the honour of being the first to die. Luckily, I was revived and the wizard picked on others for a while. I'd think we were almost a team last night, despite all the bickering thrown in. Now not only do we have to worry about Vort becoming more powerful, (I'll tell ya later,) but I also have to worry about Phae killing me while I sleep. I'd also like to clarify something for the team. When i mention evil MFing ravens, I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT PHAE'S! Last night I mention the raven and get crap about bashing Phae and her raven. I was talking about Vort's. I was right, BTW. I figured he was behind it and lo and behold he pops up. A thief's intuiton is a powerful thing. And yes, I got hit with a magic missile and ran. The damned thing nearly killed me so i'm sure you would have tried to get out of range too. Also, everyone ran in the end, I just had the great idea in the beginning. :-)

My HD went through a reformat last night. Now while the reformat was needed, I didn't get a chance to backup anything. (I wasn't around and not the one doing the reformat.) So I got to spend a few hours today downloading anything and everything I had, such as OpenRPG and ICQ etc. OpenRPG isn't a pain to re-download, I'm just sick of doing my character tree over again. I've done it about 4 times so far, due to OpenRPG crashes and whatnot. I just get bored typing out 1d20+ whatever over and over. AIM is no problem. I toss in my sn and password and my buddy list is there. ICQ is the real pain in the ass. If I had my DB file saved on disk, which I don't since I didn't get a chance to back anything up remember, (try and keep up here,) the conversion wouldn't have worked anyway. It never does for me. At most I get one person off my list and it's somebody who hasn't bothered to talk with me for ages, no matter how often I try to talk. So that leaves me with trying to find my list of ICQ numbers that I wrote down for just this kind of occasion. Then, if I can FIND them, (when the ICQ database is working,) I have to wait for them to authorize me. Now I can understand keeping authorization on, to keep stalkers at bay, personally I don't use it. My problem with it is that if a person has you on their list and vice versa, and you end up having to reinstall ICQ, when you re-add that person to your list, you shouldn't have to ask for authorization since YOU'RE ALREADY ON THEIR GODDAMNED LIST!
Another pain in the butt is I've lost all my graphic files. No not pr0n, just projects I had been working on, or stuff I had been doing for fun. I'll also find other programs or files I'm missing over the course of my normal websurfing. I notice I still have winamp to download, (and after I had gotten all those bitchin' new skins too.)
It's always weird after a reformat. You've had the computer set just right and it's comfortable, like a couch you've been sitting on for years. Then the couch is cleaned and it destroys your ass groove.
Sigh.

I hate this feeling. You know that one where you're sitting around relaxing/doing nothing/being lazy and yet you wanna go do something? Yet there's nothing to do.
For some reason last night I set my alarm for 8 this morning. I don't know why, no reason to have to be up. Not that it matters, I woke up at 10:30. So glad that alarm has the waking power needed to get me up in case I need to be up on time for something important. I'm not sure why I woke up, since I was still a little tired. It could have been that I woke up planning a budget for myself until next September. Yep, I do plan year long budgets for myself in my head. I don't write them down because things can and do change so I just adjust it in my head. What this means though, is that I'm worried about money. No real reason, I'm not broke or anything. I just find it odd to be worried about anything. I take a very apathetic stance towards everything. That used to really annoy my parents, especially when it came to college/university choosing. They used to yell because THEY were worried about it. Which I can understand. I know if I had kids I'd probably worry about them not being able to get an education. I say probably because I'm not sure. That whole apathy thing.
On the plus side, I'm finished classes so I'm off until January. The bad news is, I saw the new schedule and there are a bunch of 8 am classes. Now I have to get up at 6 to be there on time for a 9 am class. So that means I now have to be up at 5 am. Before now I barely knew there WAS a 5 am. At least a 5 am where you have to get up. I'm fully aware of the 5 am where you stumble in the door and go to bed.

My character for any and all who care:
Cit Sejam
History
Cit was born of a human father and an elven mother. He grew up in a city where humans and elves were a minority. His was an ideal life. He had parents who loved him. The family was well off and Cit was never without anything he wanted. Cit was a good child. He helped little old ladies across the street and the other usual Boy Scout stuff.
The Death of Innocence
Cit’s father was killed on Cit’s sixth birthday. He had been coming home with Cit’s present when he had been attacked by a group of Goblin muggers. With his father’s death, Cit’s mother became depressed and an alcoholic. Cit had to learn from a very young age to look after himself. Theft became necessary to provide money for food. At first he didn’t like to do it, but as time went on he realized he had no other choice.
His mother died on when Cit was 17. She had become drunk at the tavern again and never came home that night. Her body was pulled from the river four days later. Cit packed up all that was left of his belongings that his mother hadn’t sold to support her drinking habit: a bedroll and a backpack, and left his boyhood home never to return.
Fall from Grace
Cit fell in with a bad crowd after that. A gang of street thugs became his new family. It was from this gang he learned how to pick a lock and forge a document. He still helped little old ladies across the street, but it was only to relieve them of their money pouches. He was able to get his thieving equipment by stealing blind child’s pet and selling it to a processing plant. Then in a fight with another local gang, Cit’s life changed forever. While fighting one of the rival gang members, Cit was cut on the face. It left a vertical scar over his right eye. He killed the rival gang member, a poser who hung around because he thought gangs were cool. Now Cit not only had to worry about the rival gang, but also of the dead boy’s family, the family Grajher, one of the most powerful family-clans in the city.
The Prodigal Son
Cit ran. He had to hide. He disappeared into the forests on the far side of the city’s territory. It was there he found a group of rogues. Mostly thieves on the run from the law. He caught the eye of the group’s leader, a man known only as Cargh. Cit became like a son to Cargh. He taught Cit everything he knew, how to listen, how to move through the forest. The boy learned quickly, eager to learn all he could from the only man Cit ever respected as much as his father. Cit finally thought he had found his place. Cargh presented Cit with a spyglass on his 19th birthday. It was the finest thing Cit had ever seen.
End of the Dream
That night, as they slept by the campfire, the watchmen let out an alarm. City troops were storming the rogue camp. The rogues tried to hide but few made it. Cit managed to hide in the bushes and saw one of the city troops sneaking up on Cargh. It was too late to do anything. Cit watched as one of the troops slit Cargh’s throat. As the troop turned, Cit leapt from his hiding spot. He silently made his way to Cargh’s body. He took Cargh’s dagger and jumped the trooper. Cit stabbed at the city troop over and over, his rage taking hold. When it was over, no one was left. The rogues and the troops were gone. Only Cit remained in the abandoned camp. The rogues wouldn’t return, he knew, because the city troops had learned of their camp. Cit spent the morning giving Cargh a proper burial and searched the body of the city troop he had killed. They hadn’t been city law enforcers, they had been mercenaries sent by the family of the boy he had killed. All this destruction was because of him. He left the camp. He didn’t know where the other rogues had gone, or if they were captured and turned in for bounty or dead, but he knew he was no match for any other force that came looking for him alone. He started walking away from the city.
Redemption
Cit has travelled across the land, offering his services as a rogue to the highest bidder. He has always managed to get by, from score to score. He never chose to become an adventurer; it just seems to follow him around. To be more precise, trouble follows him and running from it, he ends up in adventure. And while he has never admitted it, he yearns to make up for the wrongs he has committed in the past.
Appearance and Behaviour
Cit has brown hair and green eyes. He has a pale complexion due to lack of light from city life he had growing up. Due to the death of his mentor, Cit hates sleeping defenceless anywhere; worried he may be attacked while he sleeps. Cit is sarcastic and cynical, due to growing up in a gang and having to act tough. Many describe him as a jerk when they first meet him, being cold and abrupt, though he has been known to open up a little once he gets to know someone. While mainly looking out for number one, he is loyal and selfless to his friends. He is a rational person, thinking things over before jumping in. He hates acting rashly, believing that emotions play too much into decision making if not thought out, though sometimes he has been known to forego any thought in acting.
That pretty much covers it.
