It's been a while
Today is my first Saturday off in a long, long time. I guess I have the new job to thank for that. The trade off is that every weeknight I've been getting home tired as hell. At least the extra sleep on the weekends causes the bags that appear under my eyes during the week to disappear.

One more week until I have all the extra money I need for tuition. Which is great, since it also means only two more weeks that I'll be making money and not being able to spend any of it. Once tuition is out of the way I can actually enjoy myself. I'm thinking the first thing I'll do is pick up a copy of NWN.

Thanks to Pam for being the first to send me email at my new address. I changed your site description Pam. Better? I didn't throw up a link to here at the old location because I forgot to and just switched everything over here. Oops. So if anybody doesn't know and they're going out of their minds waiting for a new post by me, make sure to direct them this way.

I don't know what K.E.E.P.R.S. is, but I'm gonna guess they're the competition of those losers at W.E.E.P.R.S.

In other news I've been working my ass off for over a month now and I must say I'm enjoying the fact that I'm not working 60 hours this week. Unfortunately, despite the steady work, I have no free cash to use for stuff like NWN or even food. I get to thank tuition for going up $500 for that. Nothing like the experience of having everything budgeted and planned out so that at the end of June everything is paid and July and August were designated party months, only to have the suprise sprung on me that it'll take another two weeks now. So Mid July I'm going on a three day bender.

Well since Matt now has NWN, I'm expecting missions set up for no later than the middle of July. When I say "expect" I mean "want." We all know Matt has time for nothing else than...What the hell do you do with your days Matt? Besides the crack and the whores...That is your entire day? OK, keep up the good work then.

So NWN is out, and I'll buy it soon enough, but we all know what's going to happen. We'll set up a certain night to play, people will have to rain check or we'll have to cancel for that night. Then because we didn't play the previous week people will forget to show. After that comes the no tell/no show situation, and we all know how Matt hates having no phone sex or peep shows. So shortly after that Matt will cancel it entirely. Except this time we'll have all spent $60 bucks.

I'm not a complete idiot!

Brian couldn't solve my MT problem in one fell swoop of a sentence. There was no "Why don't you push that button that says run?" moment. He even said "Hmm," and "I'll stew over this and maybe have some thoughts on it tomorrow." Oh my God! Brian has totally lost it! The world is ending! Or I just passed my problem down the line! I'm so perfect for any management position anywhere ever!

What I hope to achieve is to never talk about my MT problems on my blog again. It's kind of like bitching about your girlfriend while your wife is in the room. Or bitching about your girlfriend to your wife. "Blogger, MT is just being unreasonable lately. It's like she doesn't care about me anymore. How are our kids?"

That started off as an intelligent comparison of the problem and just went totally down the wrong road. Excuse me while I try and scrape the thought of having sex with a web publishing tool to produce offspring from my mind.

OK, done. What I plan to do is either get MT working ASAP or just move this blog over. I'm not picky at this point since I really want to get a site up. At first I decided that I'd work with MT since I was starting fresh, it was something new. Now I'm in the mindset that if it works, great, if not, oh well, I'll pack my bags and move. (Man that sentence was filled with commas.)

Speaking of moving, congrats Dusty on getting tossed from the country. I mean getting your visa to go live happily ever after with the monkey...Even if it is so close to Matt. I'm already planning my party for becoming The BroF Member of Canada. That is now my title, yes, including the underlining and capitalization.

The Internet's version of hazing.

So my adventure into MT continues. I'm quite proud of myself actually. I've pushed on in spite of the numerous roadblocks and I've kept the swearing to a minimum. I started clean, having deleted my first try. I was able to fix the filepath error that was stopping me up before to get mt-check to work. I added the image and html templates that were missing and fixed whatever the problem was that was screwing up mt-load. (Another filepath issue? Perhaps.) I just recently got mt-load to run properly and deleted the file. Now I can bring up the login screen. Of course that's when the roadblocks pop up, like a fraternity member hitting e with a paddle as I go through "The Unblinking Eye" or "The Call of the Hesperus" or "The Paddling of the Swollen Ass, With Paddles." I use the login and password, only I don't get an invalid login screen, I get a 404. Any error I've gotten so far could be grouped in the "idiot" category. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's once again a screw up on my part with the filepath. (How many times will I have to change the same three damned filepaths?!) Any thoughts Brian? Dusty? You two are the MT users around here. I have one last hurdle to overcome here before I can get this to run properly. AT that point, my hosting will decide to take down the servers, wipe em clean and put em back up so I can go through this again.

Failure is so humbling. Or a sign of giving up too easily.

So I had a free hour or so last night. Decided to use it to try and install MT. I say "try" because I didn't get it, of course. I don't know cgi from a hole in the ground if I was standing in it. (The hole that is, not the cgi. Or maybe I do mean the cgi.) I read the instructions several times, set up the folders where I was going to put it, think I configured the .cfg file properly and uploaded stuff in the proper ASCII and binary versions. I couldn't seem to set the permissions to 755 or whatever. Figured I'd run it anyway to see if it'd work. Error 500. "Please contact the technical contact for assisstance." It then listed my email address. I doubt the person answering that email would be of any help. So here aer my choices:

Screw around with it until I can get it to work. In case of this, get used to that "COMING SOON" screen.
Pay the $20 and have the MT people do it. Easy save the fact I don't wanna hand out more money.
Find that how-to on moving blogs from blogspot to elsewhere and move this damned thing. Easiest solution and a good stopgap at least for now.

It's me isn't it?

I've been able to view my site and check my web-based domain email account from work. I can't access it from home. Maybe it's some setting on my computer, but I can't figure out what it would be. Maybe it's just still screwing around and will settle in the next day or two. Here's hoping.

I was flipping through a magazine yesterday and the name Matt Savage caught my eye. I did a double take, but realized it was talking about a different Matt. The Matt they were talking about was autistic, ten and a genius. Zero out of three.

Also noticed video releases this week. Black Hawk Down, Monster's Ball and something called Getting There. It was something like that. I wondered what the hell that was about since I'd never heard of it and I'm usually up on movies. Turns out it's a new release of Matt's favourite twin lust objects. Some video store worker in HTown is going to get a major creepy vibe when Matt comes up to the checkout carrying a copy of that movie. Note to that worker: Buy the excuse he's renting it for his kid and try to shut out the truth. Only two years today until Matt loses interest.

NWN release date: June 18.

Where's that laughing coming from?

I checked a few times this morning while at work to see if anything had happened on the domain front. Nothing but the "Can't be found." At lunch I checked with the teacher/boss to see if I had screwed anything up or if it was just taking it's sweet time. I checked right after lunch, (I'm impatient, what can I say?) It was up! Nothing spectacular, just the placeholder I put up. I tested the mail and sent myself a few messages at a couple of my new mailboxes, then responded to them. Everything was hunky dory. I thought I'd get home and start on the long brain anurism that is setting up MT only to check my site and find the old Network Solutions "Page Under Construction" up. Cleared cache, still there. Refreshed, still there. Sigh. I know I wasn't dreaming because I have the few emails I sent to myself sitting in my inbox.

Footnote: Pinged my domain name. It's there to ping at least, but the IP addy looked odd. Checked it in the GRS and I find out it's not even an IP of my host. Stupid registry, mixing up stuff. It was there! It was up! They better fix it ASAP. - asmyth82 3:59 PM -

Blogging for blog's sake, Blog dammit!

My day so far:

4:30am: Wake up.
5:00am: Wake up for real this time.
5:30am: Get in the car, head for work.
6:00am: Start another day of training.
10:00am: Find out that since we rushed to catch up yesterday, we have now covered all the material and still have another four hours to go.
10:01am-2:30pm: Breaks galore. We're told an employee from the client will be in next week and he's strict about internet surfing. The image of a guy coming in with
a pack of Storm Troopers springs instantly to mind. But I am a geek, so that happens with most anything.
3:10pm: Get home.
4:00pm: Arrive at my other job. Not supposed to be working today, at least not here, but the boss was supposed to be going in for an operation. I was told yesterday
that the operation date was moved so I didn't have to come in if I didn't want to. Of course, being the total nice guy that I am, (read: sucker,) I said I would still
work and give the bosses some extra time off.

6:20pm: Get home. Tired as hell, (did I mention I didn't sleep well?) Now for a desperate search for a drink. Or ten.

No matter how far I go, I never get anywhere. Perhaps I should take the car out of neutral.

This whole waking up at 4:30 to get to work hasn't taken as much out of me as I would have expected. I knew I'd adjust to it, I just never expected it to happen so quickly. Save for the two instances of my alarm not going off and leaving me to oversleep, I've been up and awake on time. I've also learned not to try and nap in the evenings, it seems to screw up my sleep schedule leaving me with only two hours sleep one night.

In other job news, I now have about twelve more shifts at my old part time job. Then it will be just one full time job. What am I going to do to celebrate? Sleep in past noon on the first weekend. I deserve it seeing as how I haven't actually had a weekend off in a very long time.

Regarding my earlier comment in a previous entry about the domain name, I'm still trying to think up a good name. Yes, I have taken burningring.com into consideration, though it wouldn't be my first choice. I'd think it would turn into the online equivalent of me buying my own house and ending up with people hanging around all the time eating me out of house and home. Ya ingrates!! :-) Either that or I'd end up alone and having to explain to non brof members what the domain name meant.
